Friendfeeding family

Today we took Spencer with us to Target, which was the first time we had taken him out of the house since he came home from the hospital. We planned it so that we left just after feeding him, and he was very cool. He was awake during part of it, but did not fuss at all. We even got to have lunch at our favorite Thai restaurant by our house.

We also decided to dress Spencer in his Friendfeed onesie today. Once I saw Louis Gray’s kids in them, I knew I had to have one! For the picture hungry, there are more in the friendfeed album

When we swaddle Spencer, we think he looks like a baby burrito. This afternoon we burritoed him up and let him sleep in the sun for a bit. He tolerated it for about 30 minutes or so. He is still not too wild about the sun, but we are trying to make sure he gets his vitamin D.

Today we gave Spencer his first bath (except for the one the nurse gave him at the hospital). We have to be very careful to keep his cord dry until it falls off, so right now bathing is pretty much a sponge bath. As expected, he did not like it much very much, but he was pretty good for the most part.

We were also very pleased to find his first real poop (not meconium) right before the bath. I’m sure other parents can relate about how happy poop and pee makes us.

Bundle of Joy

Bundle of Joy

Our little bundle of joy

Just wanted to share a few more pictures with the world. I caught Spencer this morning in one of those rare quiet wakeful moments this morning, and snapped up some pictures really quickly with my 50mm fixed focal length lens. In these photos he is wrapped in the quilt that Dorene Grekowicz made for us. Thanks Dorene! He seems to like it!

This afternoon Clare and I were watching Spencer and crying a little bit. It is the first time in my life I have ever had tears of joy. What an incredible feeling this whole parenthood thing is. click for more pictures

Spencer’s first walk

Since the weather was so beautiful today (65 and sunny), we decided to take Spencer for a walk. It was nice for us to get outside of the house, and we wanted him to get a little sunlight to try to get rid of his slight jaundice. We wrapped him up tight like a burrito using some of the receiving blankets we received from friends and family, and then Rob carried him around, while we showed Grandma and Grandpa Felty the neighborhood, the walking path, and the park all right by our house.

Spencer was really good and slept most of the time. Rob is already starting to realize that his promise of carrying Spencer around for 10 months might be harder than he thought. But hopefully his back muscles will get stronger soon!
