I have been editing and hosting my own videos on this blog for over 2 1/2 years now, in flv (Flash) format. I recently decided to try a new wordpress video player plugin which is supposed to support html5 and flash. I wanted to try this because a number of devices (including iPad and iPhone) support html5 but not flash. It seemed like it was working ok, except that for some unknown reason, my videos would not play in Firefox 4+. After many experiments, I have decided to give up on hosting my own videos, and use youtube instead. So here is my first experiment with that – a video of Spencer riding me like a horsey. I don’t know where he got the idea, but he recently decided that a horsey should eat, so he tells me to do that. This is also one of the first videos I have tried with my new Canon Rebel T3i. It seems pretty nice.

Sunday afternoon after nap Spencer helped me rake leaves. We had a pretty good time. He is getting more helpful all the time. Here is a short video of him scooping leaves into the wheelbarrow. We dumped all the leaves onto the garden to compost. (We went to the zoo for trick or treating in the morning. He did not want to take off his awesome Lightning McQueen costume)

Trampoline fun

While we were visiting the Buchheits several weeks ago, Aunt Jean and Uncle Drew came down for an afternoon. One activity was bouncing on the trampoline. Spencer seemed to enjoy this immensely.

Crawling, cruising, and cuddling

Meg has made an order of magnitude leap in her mobility in the last week. She has gone from doing belly flops to regular forward crawling, and has started cruising a bit too. She can pick herself up to standing by grasping onto the couch, and will shuffle side to side a little bit. She also has a little table which she likes to use to steady herself, and sometimes will push that around the living room. But every once in awhile, when she is not busy crawling and cruising, she will cuddle with her parents and brother. Here, everyone is watching Blues Brothers, one of Spencer’s favorites. Lots of good songs and car chases!

Meg and Rob - Cow and Cowboy

Last night we went to a halloween party at the YMCA. Spencer was a firefighter, and Meg was a cow. At the last minute, I realized I could easily dress up like a cowboy. Only later did I realize that this went very well with Meg’s outfit. Unfortunately we did not get any pictures of Spencer. He pretty quickly figured out the modus operandi at the games – wait in line for awhile, throw some object and some target, and then get candy!

Pumpkins

Clare recently bought a new onesie for Meg with some pumpkins on it, and the text “daddy’s little pumpkin”, which pleased me, since she has lots of “i love mommy” shirts, but not many shirts with “daddy” on them. Clare put that on Meg this morning, and I got the great idea of taking a picture of Meg with the giant pumpkin that we grew in the garden this year. Not only did Meg’s shirt match the pumpkin, but I thought it would also be a good indication of how big the pumpkin is. We probably could have gotten it bigger, but we didn’t try too hard. Clare had originally suggested that growing a pumpkin could be fun. When I went to buy plants, the only one I could find was a giant pumpkin, so I bought it. It got quite big very quickly. It probably would have gotten bigger had I watered it more and given it more fertilizer, but I wasn’t really interested in having a 1000 pound pumpkin. It is probably about 100 pounds. I didn’t weigh it.

In September we went out to Arizona to visit the Grandparents Dibble. We thought it would be a good time to go out and enjoy their pool before it got too cold. Well, it was still 100 F or so, but it wasn’t too bad. The pool felt really great. While we were booking our flight, I asked if we should rent a car, since there are four of us now, and we wouldn’t all fit in one vehicle. They said not to worry about it. They would figure it out. At some point it occurred to me that they might pick us up from the airport in the RV, and sure enough – that’s what they did! Spencer was so excited to play in the RV. We probably spent about half the time there sitting in the driveway, playing with all the cool features of the RV.

It turns out that we weren’t the only ones from our neighborhood who had the idea to go enjoy a pool in Arizona. Rick, Alisa, and Tao from around the block were there too, visiting Alisa’s brother. So we spent one afternoon enjoying their pool. We also took a trip to the olive oil farm in the area, and we visited Shutterfly. Driving around in the RV was about the only way we could get the kids to nap, so that worked out well. It just so happens that the olive oil factory was expanding, and they had some diggers to look at, which Spencer enjoyed. And the Shutterfly tour included watching a forklift in action, which was also very stimulating for Spencer.

Formal Fedibblety Fotos

Two weeks ago we got formal pictures taken at JCPenney. Although I have kind of poo-pooed formal pictures in favor of candid ones, I decided it would be nice to have some nice pictures of all four of us, since all our previous efforts at doing so have failed. I think they did a very nice job.

Melanie visits us for labor day

Melanie came to visit us over labor day weekend, which was really nice. We had a fun time hanging out together. Melanie and Clare got massages on Saturday, then we spend most of the rest of the day just hanging out. In the evening we went over to Tao’s house for Smores.

Sunday we went down down to Colorado Springs with the hope of taking the train up to Pike’s Peak. Unfortunately it was packed on Labor Day weekend, and we couldn’t get on the train, and had a terrible time finding a parking spot to have lunch. We did see some of the Garden of the Gods. It was actually our first trip down to Colorado Springs. Now that we know our way around a bit better, we will have to try again on a weekend which isn’t so busy.

Grandparents Felty visit again

The grand Feltys came to visit us the last weekend in August. Phil and Betty came over to celebrate Fran’s birthday. Spencer was very excited about the cake we got from Das Meyer, and then proceeded to eat about one tiny bite. He seems very excited about the idea of cake lately, but doesn’t actually like eating it that much.

Saturday morning Clare flew out to Ohio for a bridal shower. The rest of us went to the Colorado Railroad Museum. We didn’t know it ahead of time, but they were laying new track that day. That was pretty exciting. We watched them work on the track for at least 30 minutes. They had some big dump trucks and front-loaders, which Spencer enjoyed very much. We also got to ride the steam engine twice!

We were fortunate that both kids took long naps Saturday and Sunday afternoon at the same time! This allowed me time to can some more salsa Saturday afternoon while the kids and the grandparents were napping. We got a bumper crop of tomatoes this year!
