Last week we took a trip out to New York to go visit family and friends before Clare’s maternity leave is up. Dave, Clare, Spencer, and Meg left very early (6:25 a.m.) on Saturday, April 30th on a big jet plane for Albany, New York. Then they rented a car and drove a couple hours to Clinton. The kids were really good for such a long trip. Rob joined them on Wednesday, since he still doesn’t have that much vacation. As usual, Dave had a great time playing with Spencer, and showing him all sorts of neat things at the Dibbles.

Spencer learned a bunch of new words, including “Colorado”, and is starting to say some fairly complex sentences, and talk more about the past, instead of just the present. Currently he adds an extra syllable to a lot of words like [blankitit] for “blanket”, or [fikid it] for “fixed it”. It is really great to watch him learn. He can also count to three, and can count backwards some too. He likes to say “two, one, go”, and then start running. Unlike some of his friends, he never speaks in the third person. In fact, I have yet to hear him speak his own name.

The downside of the visit in New York was that great grandpa fell and broke his hip, but they were able to repair it surgically, and he is recovering well.
