[n͋o] (snow)

I started this post over a year ago, and today I decided to finally finish it. Spencer’s speech has come leaps and bounds in a year. Last year around this time, he only had a few words, and had quite a bit of trouble with consonant clusters. For many months, Spencer pronounced “snow” as [no], which was quite confusing. Then for a couple months, he was producing nareal consonants, in which he made an s-like sound, but by blowing through his nose. I never got a great video of it, but this one shows it some. In particular, you can kind of see how his upper lip curls up a bit, which is a very different gesture than the lip spreading usually associated with an [s]. Of course, now he is a complete chatterbox (when he wants to be).
